£5 – £7

Director: King Vidor, USA 1928, 84 mins, U

“As an entertainment Show People is a good number. It has laughs, studio atmosphere galore, intimate glimpses of various stars, considerable Hollywood geography, and just enough sense and plausibility to hold it together.”

A funny and delightful story of stardom in Hollywood at the end of the silent era. Young Peggy Pepper wants to become an actress and is introduced to slapstick by Billy. However, she has her eye on serious dramas, which has consequences she hasn’t foreseen. One of the last great silent films, with cameos from loads of the most well known stars of the time. We will screen it with live music from Terry Davies.

“So clever is the comedy in Show People, that it would not be at all surprising to hear that many in the audiences had sat through it twice. It is a hardy satire on Hollywood life”
